Saturday is Touristy-day

Hello!

It has been a two weeks since I moved across the ocean to be with my husband. And I am yet to get acquaintance with this place, its people and culture.

What better way to get to know a place than to visit the museum, right?

For a History dork like I am, I was ecstatic at the idea of surrounding myself with old, vintage, objects from hundreds of years ago, and imagining that I were one of those White/British women from Elizabethan Era, wondering around the museum in long, puffy, intricate-jewelled lace gowns.

Lol.

For someone like Fauzi, who is through and through a realistic man, who typically lacks in the department of imagination, was not fascinated at all at the prospect of visiting a museum, which was built in 1891 during the realm of James Brooke.

The exterior of the building and its history alone had me scream in orgasm. Haha!

This museum was built in order to house and display local indigenous arts and crafts, and collections of local animals most by a prominent British naturalist, Alfred Russel Wallace. It survived both world wars. During World War I, this museum was assigned as British military offices and during the Japanese Invasion in World War II, a Japanese officer took sympathy of the goal of the museum and protected it. The museum suffered very little damage.

I love the way he looks at the camera as I babble on and on and on about the history of the museum and each interesting artefact that caught my interest. Haha.

Photography is not allowed in the premise, so I could not share with you the wonders this museum offers. It sure does have A LOT to show. From the tiniest, microscopic creature on seashells to the gigantic real bone of a Blue Humpback Whale object, from the lightest piece of letter written by James Brooke to the heaviest charcoal train wheel.
I learned a lot about this state and the beauty of its culture. I cannot wait to explore more!
