Probable Causes Of My Miscarriage

There is no moment quite like it. Holding the pregnancy test, hands shaking, and a big fat smile plastered on your face. Then, you excitedly made a dash to your husband and shyly showed the pregnancy kit to him. Immensely pleased and joyous with the news, he showered you with kisses and rest a hand on your tummy, looking all proud.
But, it all came down the drain when your baby suddenly stopped growing at a certain week...
Every time I think of my pregnancy, I could not escape a sense of self-blame. No matter how many times I was told that my miscarriage was not my fault, or the fact that it occurred as the result of a chromosomal abnormality, I could not help but lay the blame on me.
A reel of probable causes played through my mind and I wish not to repeat them with my subsequent pregnancy.

1) I had not taken pregnancy test as soon. I was 25 days late when I had my first test. And by the time I had my first appointment, I was already eight weeks pregnant, half-way into first trimester.
2) I had not taken folic acid and iron tablets soon enough. Since we found out about my pregnancy later in the first trimester, I started with the medications and supplements rather late and that had not been a help in the baby's development and growth.
3) I had done numbers of vigorous activities in the first eight weeks. Completely unaware of my pregnancy, I had engaged myself with cycling and hiking, and I even took a lot of fall during hiking to Bako National Park. I was supposedly six weeks at the time of the event.
4) I had spent long hours outdoors when I was supposed to be on bedrest. I did not take a heed when my doctor insisted for me to be on bedrest due to high-risk of miscarriage, because his family was in town and saying no to their invitation for a long walk along the beach or taking a boat ride along the river, was offensive.
5) I had absentmindedly lifted the living room carpet off the floor while preparing my in-laws' bedroom. Because there was no one else to do it. No matter how many times I had asked for help, but none came.
6) I had overworked myself in the kitchen. Straining yourself while preparing dinner for your in-laws, alone in your small space of a kitchen, and lifting cooking oil and other stuff around, can take an ugly toll on your already fragile body.
7) I had not taken sufficient nutritions. Eating healthy food was not what my baby preferred. I should have forced fruits, milk, oat instead of going along with its demands and craves.
8) I had not been praying, and asking to Lord to protect my baby enough. I admit, I sin every day. Who does not? But, when I was pregnant, I was too confident with myself and my pregnancy that I forgot to pray for my baby's safety.
Truthfully, it is hard to move on from this episode. So, whenever you see or hear stories from your friends, or siblings, or strangers about their struggle with pregnancy, or about their early pregnancy miscarriages, please support them. Do not make them feel as if it happened because of them. Because they already think they are the reason it happened.
