Things I Have Learned From My One Month Marriage

It's 20th of December!

Today marks a month Fauzi and I are married, so I am quite excited about it. A little nostalgic too. I could not help but reflect back on our journey - the good times and the bad.

For me, it was getting through the transitioning period from moving out of my mum's house into a new home, living with someone other than myself and learning how to be a good wife, was challenging.

After awhile, I began to realise that I am quite traditional in the sense that I like to clean my own house, cook for my husband and do our laundry. I once baffled at the thought of having to clean up after myself and someone else. I always had my mum and gramma and maids to do that for me. So, I am really surprised that I actually enjoy doing wifey stuff!

Mum and gramma will faint upon reading this. Haha.

I cannot deny that being a (temporary) housewife is exhausting, but the smile on his face when he comes home for lunch or after-work and appreciation kisses, makes it all worth it.

There is probably a lengthy list of things that I could type right now of what I have learned about my dear husband and our wonderful marriage but these are my top.

  1. We like to keep a clean house at all times. Since we live in an apartment, we want to keep our space as cosy and clean as possible. We do not need clutter taking up more space that needed. We are not OCD or Danny Tanner, fortunately for me, Fauzi is not a typical man who is allergic to cleanliness and keeping-things-tidy. He prefers to have everything at its place and neatly arranged. I have always had the habit of organising, and storing, so it becomes very handy around the house.
  2. Cooking is actually not that hard. Fauzi is basically my rat lab. When I lived with my mum and gramma, I was strictly forbidden from cooking or baking, which I did not mind at all. So, being a wife now, I have started to learn some recipes online and I realised that cooking is challenging but not impossible. Even for amateurs like me. I have made some edible dishes and so far, Fauzi has not thrown up or suffered from constipation. Haha. All is well in the kitchen.
  3. My husband loves his breakfast. Truthfully, I am not an early breakfast kind of person. My breakfast usually is at 9 or 10 o'clock in the morning, not 7. Fauzi had mentioned it to me a few weeks ago that he considers breakfast as a bonding time. So, in the strive of becoming the wife from angel, I woke up at 6 o'clock in the morning every day to prepare his breakfast. And I have not missed a day so far. *beaming proudly*
  4. Patience is a virtue not everyone owns. As much as Fauzi prefers to keep our home tidy, he tends to forget to put his dirty clothes in the hamper. I guess, he does not run as far from being typical. Sometimes, it tires me to always pick up after him. But, it is my natural instinct to just do it because I love him. He has done the exact same for me. He has never quick to yell or get angry with me, when I did not cook or stubbornly refused to clean our bathroom. After all, marriage is all about compromise and learning to be patient and accepting your spouse's flaws.
My marriage is not always dandy. There are ups and downs. But that is the beauty of it. And I am planning to embrace every little things that life and marriage have to offer. Because life is too short to sigh and complain about other people's flaws and shortcomings. I, myself, am not perfect. But I am trying to be the perfect one for him.

Here's to many more months and years to come!
