Aidil Adha 2018

Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha to all Muslims around the world.

Since the passing of my grandfather in Mecca, while doing his Hajj, seven years ago, Eid Al-Adha has always been a rather melancholic celebration to my family.

This year's celebration is no different than the last six. Except this year, it falls on my Achik's birthday.

This is my FIRST Eid Adha with my family after I tied the knot, actually. The first one was celebrated in Kuching with just the two of us. While the second one was with his family. Hence why, it is understandable I was super excited to celebrate this year's Eid. On top of that, I wanted to show to my husband how my family commemorates it. Mainly because, his family does not really celebrate Eid. And I, honestly, find it...rather sad.

But who am I to judge?

I am ecstatic enough that I get to celebrate it with my family, my husband and my baby girl. ♥️

Left to Right: Me, baby girl (Elana), husband (Fauzi), grandmother (Mak), first aunty (Achik), youngest aunty (Asu), mother (Mama), second uncle (Ayang), second uncle's wife (Auntie).

📍Taman Dr, Ipoh

This park holds a lot of my childhood memory. We often frequented this park when I was small. My grandparents loved the tranquility that this park had to offer. Some days in the mornings, or in the afternoons after picking up both my aunties from school, we would walk around the park and fed the fish and ducks. We would even take a boat ride around the lake because the 8 year old me loved it!

My mum had even organised my 9th birthday party here and boy, was I proud of the arrangements! I was the talk of the school for the entire school year. Since then I was the popular girl. 😂

I did have one of the best childhood, ay!

However, over the years, with the growing number of ignorant citizens and equally ignorant state government, this park was soon neglected. It is unfortunate that this park that once was a pride of Ipoh, had turn into a sanctuary for homeless and drug addicts. I really hope the state government will plan for restoration and maintenance soon, 'cause I very much want to see this park shines once again like how it used to in the its glory days.

📍Taman Jepun, Ipoh

After endless of photo taking, my 71 year-old grandmother decided to throw in the towel and have a rest in the car, instead. Poor, Mak.

This park holds quite a few wonderful memories of my childhood too. This is the place where my  mum used to bring my father on a date when he came back to Malaysia to visit his sweetheart. I guess, people from those days, loved to bring their date here, because my grandparents would come here for a date too in their early years of marriage. How romantic!

My aunties and I used to play hide-and-seek in this park after school. One day, they took too long to look for me that I came out of my hiding, screaming my lungs out, scarring the other patrons, because I thought they had left me. In my defence, they were quite mean with me while I was growing up! 😂 They admitted that they could not find me and almost called for the police because they thought someone had kidnapped me. Safe to say, that was the last time I ever stepped my foot at this park. Until today, after 20 years...

📍Ipoh

I come from a relatively small family, maternally and paternally. Unlike my husband, who comes from a fairly large family on both side of his parents.

Despite that, I am proud that my family is a close-knitted one. Only god knows how grateful I am to be able to call these wonderful and amazing people, my family. And no one, I mean NO ONE, not even my husband, will truly understand how much each and every one of them mean to me.

I love them with every fibre of my being. No denying in that.

And this Eid is special because I get to celebrate it with this whole lot.

Happy Eid! And salaam,
