Patience in Teaching
Natasha Zainall June 11, 2010 4
So, this evening, I came across this one quotation and I found it very suitable for today's entry. You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. ~Franklin P. Jones
Small children tend to ask so many questions that sometimes you cannot even answer. And that’s what I learned from my Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 students today. That’s the thing about teaching, “you get to learn while teaching”. Irony isn’t.
Today, I helped mama at her tuition centre and I was asked to replace Encik Faizal, who is on a long break. Well he’s getting married, my mommy gives him cuti-kahwin, haha.
When I entered the Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 class (yes, class, not classes because mama told me to combine them, easier. Well, I can't cut myself into three, can I?), anyway, they looked really pleased and happy like they were actually hoping I would be teaching them, haha.
The first thing they asked when they saw me walked in their class was, "Are you teaching us today kakak?” When I nodded, they squealed happily. Much to mama's liking I thought but luckily she didn’t hear the noise.
Today's lesson was like any other lessons- I gave them exercises, we exchanged ideas, we discussed the answers, then I went to check their spellings and I called them one by one to read their answers, so that I can correct their pronunciation. I have to say mommy taught me well, hehe
The class ended at 6.25 in the evening. It was a pretty short day, I thought. Well, I had to handle all three classes at once, what do you expect, haha. But, no worries, I'm an expert! Yes, you may roll your eyes, haha. I'm in a really good mood, so pardon all my cheeky self-praises that will cause you to hurl your dinner. =P
The girls refused to sit next to the boys. Highlight issue: SEXIST is actually happening in this class, lol!
Caught on camera. Heeeey, no cheeeating!

One of the most obvious victims of sexism, lol!
The students were rather happy that I ended the class early, but seriously, who wouldn't, right. I would too. =P
The kids wanted to play 'whisper game' and 'guess-what-am-i game'.
At first I didn't like the idea because they'd be too noisy. But they pleaded and pleaded and pleaded until I gave in. I thought, yeah why not, besides it's been a while I haven't played any games with them.

At 6.45 I had trouble ending the class, as they refused to go home, haha. 'twas indeed another awesome day, and I can't wait for my practicum! =D
P/S : "Don't be all goody goody towards them. Baby kena tegas, lagi2 practical nanti, you'll be teaching bigger students. Primary kids pown lagi besar dari Baby." - Lizza, 2010.
Thanks for reminding Maaaaaa, lol.
Wishing you an awesome evening.
With my much love all the way from Ipoh,
Natasha.
