Seeking Serenity On A Secret Beach

Everyone has a place where they go to escape all the pressures and worries of life. There is always that one spot that can soothe all your problems and troubles in times of stress.

For me, that place is the seashore. Every aspect of an ocean beach soothes me and eases my mind. All the pressures and worries of life that are weighing me down, suddenly lifted and I felt calm and free.

The day was warm and muggy. The water was clear and rich deep blue in colour, not a patch of sea weed in sight. Fluffy clumps of clouds were covering the cerulean blue sky. Birds were soaring over head searching for food and chirping away as if they were creating a song.

The way the sand flowed onto my feet and out of the spaces between my toes made my heart pound in content. The smell of the salty sea tingled my nose as I breathed in a breath of fresh air. The waves were singing me a dulcet lullaby, making me reminisce my childhood, drawing me closer into them.

It was simply too nice outside to not take a walk along the beach. . .

I stood on the cliff. I could see a fracture of white sand and a wide slash of bay. The canopy of sky and the plane of sea hemmed each other into a blurry line. It was as if they had been welded into an extended splinter of perfection.

At that point, I knew this was where I need to come for serenity and peace. Where all things seem perfect and care free. There is nowhere in the world quite like the beach. So peaceful and serene.

I relaxed as I watched out onto the far ocean, the kayaker gently glided over the gentle waves, and brightly coloured sailboats disappear in the distance. I walked up to the edge of the beach and dunked my toe into the water. It felt as though my numbed foot from before melted into a puddle mixed with the ocean. I stretched my legs and slouched down on the platform of the beach; with a camera in one hand, I captured every passing moment with a mushy heart.

The sun was getting tired and was slowly lying off its heat. The day was ending and my eyelids began to feel heavy. The edges of the blue sky blurred with the sea full of glittering waves. The tranquility of this 'hidden' beach almost seems like a dreamlike and distant memory as I emerge from the woodland trails and back to reality.

Damai Beach, you have kept so many of my secrets and sorrows. I will miss you when I move back to Kuala Lumpur.

Goodbye for now. I have a reality to return to. . .
