Dysmenorrhea Bedridden

I sound very clinical, don't I? Pardon me. It is an appealing habit that I picked up along the way after  associating with some new friends who work in the medical field. To speak in a magniloquent manner and comprehend the term adequately to actually be able to engage in a mature discourse has gained me respect from his doctor friends and put me even higher place in his heart.

In English, the medical terminology for painful menstrual period that occurs before or/and during monthly cycle is called 'dysmenorrhea'. Whereas, the word 'bedridden' that origins from Middle English, brings the meaning of confined to bed by sickness.

Though, our younger generation today, who mostly have lost interest in expanding their lexicon, would artlessly and easily say it as, period pain.

How very cultured. 😐

Back in Australia, my guy friends would always recoil in fear at hearing anything related to menstruation, hence why I started to use these two amusing euphemisms when referring to my cycle to my girl friends in order to lighten up the mood and save the guys from horrific thoughts, like how our uterus is sliced up and is bleeding non-stop. Haha.

➾ Aunty Flo is visiting.
➾ Tom is in town.

A lot more classier than blatantly screaming "I'm on my period" to everyone, ay?

Though, as I grow older, I prefer to use the medical term dysmenorrhea instead, and take in the greatest pleasure at seeing people, generally men's face, scrunch up in disgust, or blanch in fear at my detailed, clinical explanation on the term. Haha.

A girl in pain deserves a peaceful rest with no interruption, ay? Apparently not for this girl, by the number of unread emails from work that keep blowing her inbox up. Perhaps, these people need a comprehensive explanatory note on dysmenorrhea too...

Oh well, work can wait. I have a Malay novel to read and analyse as people have been going cuckoo about it, a crème brûlée bread pudding to indulge myself in, and a sexy bed to make love to. Happy working!
